The furnace is a Lectromelt Model PT (9.0 feet diameter) of the fixed mast design wherein the electrode arms travel up and down vertically on rigid electrode columns attached to the crosshead casting. The arms are complete with 10.0 inch diameter power operated electrode holders. the arm bodies and electrode holders are water cooled. Heavy wall copper bus tubes carry electric current from the secondary cables to the electrode holders. The electrode arm assemblies are moved up and down by means of a hydraulic power unit utilizing servo valves and accumulators.

The furnace shell is constructed of heavy wall rolled plate steel and is 9.0 feet inside diameter. The furnace tilts on shell mounted rockers which mesh with foundation mounted fabricated steel pedestals. Furnace tilting is accomplished by a separate hydraulic power supply and two tilt stations, one adjacent to the furnace, the other located in the operator pulpit.

The furnace roof lifts and swings over the tap spout for scrap charging by a separately mounted roof hydraulic roof lift and swing mechanism which is mounted to a foundation to the rear of the furnace. The hydraulic power supply which tilts the furnace provides power for the roof lift and swing function also.

Electrode positioning and regulation during melting is provided by a hydraulic power supply consisting of redundant electric motors and pumps, and an individual hydraulic servo valve and accumulator for each phase. A piped in spare accumulator and servo is provided for in the system.

An Alan Bradley PLC provides the interphase between the operator station in the pulpit and the various furnace function. A computerized electrode regulation system is also included.

The prefabricated furnace pulpit includes an operator panel with the required controls for the furnace. It is set up to handle a transformer with a four (4) position off load motorized tap changer with a Delta Wye switch.

A manual high voltage disconnect, primary high voltage bus and a Joslyn vacuum switch are provided to transmit the primary power to the transformer. These units are both rated at 15.0 KV and 600 amperes. Auxiliary equipment for the tap changer drive is included.

Water-cooled secondary cables are provided to transmit the electric power from the transformer secondary low voltage bus work to the furnace.

Total quoted price for the furnace mechanical equipment, secondary cables, furnace pulpit and panel, hydraulics power units, PLC and cabinet as well as the other misc. auxiliary items.
